Webflow provides a fast, flexible, and easy way for clients to manage their website content. As part of their ongoing efforts to improve user experience, Webflow is now rolling out a major update to how content editing works, which will affect anyone currently using the Webflow Editor accessed via their live website.
The transition to the new editing experience is already underway, with sites gradually moving across during 2026. The Legacy Editor will be fully retired and no longer accessible from August 4, 2026.
You may have already noticed a warning message when logging into the current Editor. Webflow is now displaying a banner that explains the Legacy Editor will be removed soon and encourages users to move to the new editing experience.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s changing, what it means for you, and what to expect next.
What’s changing
Webflow is phasing out the Legacy Editor and replacing it with a new content editing experience inside the Webflow platform.
Instead of editing your website via a separate “Editor mode” on your live site, you will now log directly into Webflow to make updates. You will still be able to have up to three content editors with access to your website as part of your hosting plan.
The current editor will be fully retired in August 2026.
Why Webflow is making this change
This update brings a more modern and reliable editing experience, including:
- Better security and user access control
- A more stable editing interface
- Real-time collaboration features
- Improved media and content management
- Access to newer Webflow tools and updates
In short, it is a cleaner and more powerful way to manage your website.
What this means for you
You will still be able to update your website, but the way you access it will change slightly.
Key changes:
- You will no longer log in via your website URL
- You will receive access to your site via a Webflow Workspace
- Editing happens inside Webflow, not on the front-end editor
- Your permissions will be managed through your login
What you need to do
There is nothing you need to do right now. Webflow will begin transitioning existing users during 2026, and you will receive an email inviting you to access your site through the new editing experience between now and the 4th August, 2026.
As part of this process, we will oversee the transition for your website, making sure your access is set up correctly and providing any guidance along the way. Our goal is to keep the experience simple and straightforward for you.
If you have any questions about this update, please feel free to get in touch with our team.
